How does Clayton Bank protect my debit card?

Clayton Bank has implemented various security features to help protect you from fraud losses and other potential identity theft issues. These features include limiting use of your debit card outside the Southeast Region and at merchants everywhere that present a higher fraud risk or have experienced confirmed fraud.
To minimize disruptions:

1.     Notify us before traveling outside Tennessee:

  • Call us at 1-800-894-4402
  • Contact your local branch or client representative

2.     Use your PIN – Your signature or simply swiping your card will not work when traveling outside the Southeast Region.

3.     Carry an alternate method of payment.

We monitor your debit card transactions for potentially fraudulent activity, which may include a sudden change in locale (such as when a U.S.-issued card is used overseas), a sudden string of costly purchases, or any pattern associated with new fraud trends around the world. We also monitor online transactions, such as with Online Bill Pay, for possible fraudulent activity.

If we suspect fraudulent debit card use, we’ll call you to validate the legitimacy of your transactions. Your participation in responding to our call is critical to prevent potential risk and avoid restrictions we may place on your card. Clayton Bank recommends storing 1-800-369-4887 along with the 800 number on back of debit card in your phone.

To ensure we can continue to reach you whenever potential fraud is detected, please keep us informed of your correct phone number, email address and physical address at all times.

What is a compromised card?

A compromised card is a card that is at risk of being used fraudulently. Cards may be compromised due to computer theft, unauthorized network intrusion, or other types of suspicious activity at a store where you shopped or as your card number and payment information travel electronically through the processing system.

How does Clayton Bank react to compromised card situations?

Clayton Bank takes every compromise seriously and requires issuance of new cards for affected customers. Customers will receive notification if their card data has been compromised. The notification will provide detailed information on obtaining a replacement card.

Does receiving a notice from CB that my card has been compromised mean I have fraud on my account?

Not necessarily. A compromised card letter does not mean any fraudulent activity has occurred on your account. In fact, among the list of card numbers CB periodically receives, only a few have been affected by fraud. Remember to review daily transactions using Online Banking and statements to identify any possible fraudulent activity on your accounts.

What if I discover fraud on my account?

Call the bank immediately at 1-800-894-4402 if you identify any fraudulent transactions. You will also need to complete our Cardholder Dispute Form. Please be diligent in monitoring transaction activity on your account using Online Banking and e-statements.

What can I do to protect my card and account information?

While there is no way to completely eliminate debit card fraud, you can take the following steps to minimize the risk of it happening:

  1. Don’t disclose your account number over the phone unless you initiate the call
  2. Guard your debit card number and PIN
  3. Don’t carry your PIN with you or write it on the debit card
  4. Stay away from ATMs that appear dirty, in disrepair or have unusual signage
  5. Carefully check your ATM and debit card transactions
  6. Periodically check your account activity
